Introduction to Evaluation
Evaluation is the key component of any program that focuses on continuous improvement. Evaluation is used in online education to:
- determine the quality, effectiveness, and continuous improvement of the program and/or course;
- understand the pros and cons of online learning courses or programs; and
- make improvements
Most people believe that evaluation occurs after the course has been completed. Wrong! Evaluation occurs:
- Before (needs assessment) to plan
- During (formative evaluation) to make improvements; and
- After (summative evaluation) to determine outcomes.
