Dr. Victoria Dunnam
Ph.D., M.Ed., BBA

Educational Technologist | Instructional Designer | Consultant

I am a dedicated lifelong learner with a strong passion for leveraging technology, research, and instructional design to foster innovation in education and training. With over 20 years of experience across Higher Education and K–12 settings, I specialize in strategically integrating technology into learning environments, developing and delivering online instructional content, and facilitating both instructor-led and virtual professional development.

As a forward-thinking consultant and leader, I have successfully led initiatives that expanded online learning offerings and designed a comprehensive certification program. My core strengths include strategic planning, instructional design, educational research, and cross-functional collaboration. I am skilled at managing complex projects, aligning learning strategies with organizational goals, and delivering high-impact solutions that improve learner engagement and outcomes.

My goal is to apply my expertise in educational technology, research, and leadership to support organizations in enhancing instructional effectiveness and driving measurable results.

Education

I hold a Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in Integrated Technology and Learning from Grand Canyon University. I also earned a Master’s degree in Educational Technology from the University of Texas at Brownsville and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Science from Hardin-Simmons University. My foundational education, from elementary through high school, was completed at the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Grant, Alabama.

Work Experience

My professional experience includes consulting contract work in instructional design, educational technology, and quality assurance for online courses at Union Theological Seminary, Jewish Theological Seminary, Manhattan School of Music, and IDesign. I have held roles such as Director of Online Education at McMurry University and Technology Teacher Trainer/E-Learning Specialist at Abilene Independent School District.

Accomplishments

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of leading a wide range of programs from initial development through successful implementation—many of which have exceeded projected goals and outcomes. I have also gained extensive experience presenting to large audiences through workshops at conferences such as MoodleMoot and TCEA. One of the most personally meaningful presentations I deliver is to NSDAR Chapter meetings, where I share my experiences as a former student of a DAR school and reflect on formative memories that shaped my educational journey.

Education has always been a core passion in my life. Earning my Ph.D. stands as one of my proudest accomplishments, representing both a significant personal milestone and a commitment to continued professional growth.

Statement of Teaching Philosophy

As a lifelong learner, I believe education is a dynamic, empowering process that extends far beyond the classroom. My philosophy centers on the belief that effective teaching should inspire curiosity, foster critical thinking, and cultivate a mindset of continuous growth. I strive to create learning environments that are inclusive, student-centered, and grounded in real-world relevance.

I view the role of the educator as a facilitator—one who guides students in discovering knowledge rather than simply delivering it. I encourage learners to ask questions, explore solutions, and take ownership of their educational journey. To support this, I incorporate a range of instructional strategies and technologies that address diverse learning styles and promote engagement.

Motivation plays a vital role in student success, and I frequently apply the ARCS model (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) to design meaningful learning experiences. I aim to connect content to practical applications, build confidence through scaffolding and support, and foster a sense of achievement through clear and attainable outcomes.

My personal journey—pursuing advanced education later in life—has shaped my teaching philosophy. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of accessible, flexible learning. These insights inform how I design courses, support learners, and continuously evolve my practice.

Ultimately, my goal is to inspire students to view learning not as a task to complete, but as a lifelong pursuit—one that empowers them to grow intellectually, professionally, and personally.
